Book # 28 : Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

Anne of Green Gables is a bestselling novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery published in 1908. It was written as fiction for readers of all ages, but in recent decades has been considered a children's book. Montgomery found her inspiration for the book on an old piece of paper that she had written at a young age, describing a couple that were mistakenly sent an orphan girl instead of a boy, yet decided to keep her. Montgomery also drew upon her own childhood experiences in rural Prince Edward Island. Montgomery used a photograph of Evelyn Nesbit, clipped from an American magazine and pasted on the wall above her writing desk, as the model for Anne Shirley, the book's main character.

Since publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold more than 50 million books. In addition, this widely loved book is taught to students around the world.

One of the best books I have ever read. This book deeply touched my heart.

Anne is now one of my idols, one that I would love to be when I am a little older. Montgomery is simply amazing. I thought this book will bore me, but I was so wrong. I found out that I was craving for more. I couldn't put the book down. I found Anne's raving and outbursts very interesting and funny. Gilbert's character amuses me. I love Anne's pride, very much like mine. Although I forgive rather easily. And Marilla is just wonderful. Especially Matthew too. They make up a very good pair, just like a real normal family. I couldn't stop myself from crying at the end of the book. It was very heart breaking.

I will forever treasure the lessons I learned from Anne. It such a short time I grew fond of all the characters, like they were my own family. This is the best classic I have ever read, and I hope that other readers will also uncover the treasures I have found in this book. Something that no money can buy, something that I will never forget and will always keep in mind and heart : LOVE.
